Experiencing technical difficulties...

My laptop has recently been experiencing many problems and Sims won't work.  Here's the story:

After some research I had assumed that it was because my drivers were too out of date to play Generations because this had all started after I had installed Generations so... after I fiddled around with it I finally uninstalled Generations.

Then I got the disc authentication error notice.  By this time I was very annoyed so I saved my 100 Baby Challenge file and uninstalled the Sims 3 completely.

At this very moment I am installing the Sims 3 again and I really hope that it works.  I am halfway through my next post (baby 47!) so the other half may be a little different because I will not have Generations or Ambitions (I lent it to a friend so I don't have it at the moment) for a while.  I will definitely not be able to install Generations until I update my driver (don't worry, I don't really understand it either) or figure out the problem.

I am so sad that this had to happen but hopefully I can get the game up and running well again.  The next post should come out hopefully in the next couple weeks (sorry).

I'm just hoping and praying that my game will work.  I hope you all understand and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.  Wish me luck! ☺

AHHH!!  Oh my gosh!! I just realized that I haven't updated my EA Download Manager.  Maybe that's the problem.  If so, I will be a bit frusterated because I've been doing all this work researching the problem and re-installing all the games.  I kind of hope that's the reason for all these problems because it's easy to fix.  Oh well, keep wishing me luck!

UPDATE (an hour later....)

I've tried playing just the base game Sims 3 and it didn't work.

What has been happening is that for a while the game would freeze for a few seconds and then go black and then play again.  It was giving me the message "The display driver has stopped responding and has recovered."  That didn't bother me until about a week ago when it would do this literally ever 10-30 seconds.  It was extremely irritating as one can imagine.

A day ago I loaded it to the main menu and it froze, made a weird sound, and eventually went to the "blue screen" and then restarted.  I couldn't even do "ctrl-alt-delete" like I usually do.  In fact, I couldn't even see my mouse and none of the keys were responding.  I tried it many times after that and every time it would restart.  I haven't been able to play it since.  Now I'm really going to have to do something because it still doesn't work.

I really hope I can get this problem fixed.  Because of this devastating news I probably won't be able to continue my blog until this problem is fixed which will be I don't know when.  If it doesn't happen soon, I promise I will still give updates on how it is going.

P.S.  Should I just post what I have of the next post?

Also, if you have any advice or know what is going on with my computer, please let me know.  And even if it doesn't help, it'll make me feel better.  I hope I can continue on with this challenge.  It's killing me not to be able to play Sims.  It would make me so sad to have to stop. :(

  1. That sucks! >:( I'm glad I'm not you.
Did you update your game after reinstall? I know I couldn't play my game after I reinstalled until I updated it and installed a few ep's and sp's. I hope you get this fixed!

  4. Did you try going onto your graphic card's official website and updating the drivers? It might help :)

Does it do that before or after the loading page? Do you get to load your family at all?

  5. I'm sorry to hear of your computer problems. I've been a lurker for a while. This has happened to me. What fixed it for me is putting all your settings at the lowest setting (like shadows, mirrors, etc). For me, I have to keep all the options that pop up saying to restart the game have to be on the lowest setting, but everything else can be on high. That's just an idea.

I would be fine with you posting what you have of your next post, but I wouldn't care if you decide to wait. Maybe just see if you can figure out the problem within a few days and if you can't go ahead and post it.

  6. Oh no! Have you got enough memory and no conflicting CC? What video card do you run on? I had a problem like this with sims 2, red walls, pink terrain and purple floors, then disappearing heads and then no loading at all -.- I cried when I lost my sims LOL. Good luck fixing it, please keep us updated!!!

  7. Thank you all for your encouraging words!

Jacqueline - I did update my game as well as EA downloading manager. Even with just the base game it freezes up.

Gabbages - Thanks! I think the first part will come out in a couple of days, although if I do get the second half out it might not be similar.

ForeverHailey - Thanks! This kind of reminds me of when you had a ton of viruses on your computer.

AngeLys - I can't even get to the loading part at all. It will go to the main menu but then it freezes. I have a feeling that it has nothing to do with the game because it does this on other games too (ex. Zoo Tycoon, I play it with my little sister).

Purpley - Nice to meet you! I can't even get to the options because it freezes and restarts right before I can click on anything.

TcTara - Since I uninstalled the game and re-installed it I have not put any CC on it so it's not that. Like I mentioned earlier, I don't think it's a Sims thing because it's worked before and it does this thing with other games. I will be sure to keep you all updated through comments and posts.

Thanks again! I intend to ask my dad to help me out with this problem. I was going to use an online driver updater but I had to pay. Then I tried one for free but I didn't quite get what it was doing. It kept installing new programs onto my computer so I quit that. May I will get it sent to a store or something. I can't get a new computer because this one is already pretty new (Windows 7) and I wouldn't be able to afford a new one.

Thanks again and I'll keep everyone updated. Part of the next post that I have scraped up will be posted shortly, hopefully in the next couple days. :D

  8. There are a lot of places specialised in fixing computers. Perhaps you should take a look at that. It won't be free, but a lot less expensive than having a new one. I'd bet your graphic card might be broken, and that's also not too expensive to replace.

  9. So sorry that you are having problems with your game. I know Sims withdrawal is no fun, but we will be here waiting when you get things straightened out.

  10. Angelys - Yes, I am thinking of taking it to the professionals (or at least my dad). I'm not the best at computer tech stuff so it's probably better that someone else does it. Thanks for the help!

Snarkysims - I know, I fee like a piece of me is gone. At least this forces me to do other stuff besides looking at a computer screen all summer. :D

  11. OMG! I am so sorry you're having problems with your computer! I've noticed laptops whine like little babies when playing The Sims 3! I hope you can get everything up and running. You have a really good blog going!
